A Day in the Life...

Soooo...it has been an interesting couple of days. It started out just being a week like any other. Then yesterday I had some of my students put a few grasshoppers in the toilet. But today was the kicker...a student decided to wash his hands in the toilet. How many weeks until the end of school?? : ) In tribute, I decided to write a poem. Here goes:

Clean hands?

I washed my hands, said little Tim.
I made them really clean.
My friends all saw just what I did
But it made my teacher scream.

You see, I did not wash them in the sink
I did not use the soap
I did not turn the water on
I knew that I could cope

I had a secret place
My plan was already set
It only took me a second
To wash my hands in the toilet.

Teen movies...

This week has been a fun movie week. April and I went to see Hannah Montana: The Movie for her birthday. I have to say I am NOT, NOT a fan. I almost never watch her show, never listen to her music, and haven't bought any of her merchandise. That said...I LOVED IT!! I mean, really, truly, will-buy-it-when-it-comes-out, loved it. It was clean, it was fun, and it had a great soundtrack. Admittedly, country has grown on me and HM had some of my faves - Rascal Flatts, Taylor Swift, and of course, Billy Ray, himself. I really like his new single...and for those of you who are doubters...he has come a long way from his achy-breaky roots (though I do remember rockin' out to that tune many a time in the day).

I first started to notice Miley when she was a voice in Bolt. I really enjoyed that film, as well. So after that, I thought I would give her new movie a shot. I think most of the "haters" would have to admit that this girl can sing and even act a little... LOL The movie focuses on the fact that she has become a little too HM, which is kind of interesting as we have seen that fame has definitely gone to Miley's head just a bit as well. Due to this, Dad decides that she needs to go back home and discover who she is even if that means that she will never be HM again. Well, I won't spoil the ending, but it's a cute, fun journey of self-discovery with her meeting a cute cowboy to help her along the way. As I said before, the soundtrack is catchy and includes all of the people I mentioned above as well as a few new songs from Miley herself. I am looking forward to her new album, and have to admit that I am now a fan.

As for the other movie that I saw this week (those of you who know me, know my addiction to the thee-ah-ter), it was the oh-so-fun, oh-so-anticipated, 17 Again. Flashback a few years, and I remember all of the movies that had age regression. Hello?? Big?? Dream a little dream?? So I have always enjoyed watching movies that talk about what COULD HAVE BEEN. This one has a new spin in that our young Zac Efron has impregnated his HS sweetie and decides to give up everything to marry her. I guess here is the part where I can tell you a lot of us relate. I mean, how many of us wonder if we had done X, then maybe Y would/wouldn't have happened. Maybe somewhere I took a wrong turn and I was really supposed to be a high powered lawyer. Or I was actually supposed to finish the book I started in sixth grade and submit it to become the next big writer. Who knows? : ) This movie explores what happens when you have that second chance. Admittedly, the ending is a bit cliche, but HEY! I GO to movies for happy endings. The fun thing about this movie, other than the talented Zac Efron and the puppy-eyed Matthew Perry, are the other characters. Leslie Mann (anyone remember George of the Jungle?) plays the almost ex-wife, who decides to divorce him for his complaing for 20 years of what could have been. His nerdy best friend...he's the ultimate dork who grows up to be a gazillionaire...is funny and even he ends up with the girl of his dreams. Those of you who follow Disney stars will also get a kick out of seeing Chad Dylan Cooper of Sonny with a Chance as the awkward son who eventually finds his way.

I think what I enjoy the most about these movies, other than the fact that they are just good fun, is that it makes me remember what I was like when. When everything was fresh and new. When you fell in love for FOREVER and EVER. When you knew that you were going to be friends with your kids. When you knew that you wouldn't make the mistakes of all of the adults around you. When you knew that even though you weren't a rock star, that you would be one some day. And walking out of the theater, remembering all of that, was a pretty good way to end the night.

And there you go. See em or don't...but honor the kid inside of us all.

Moms and minivans...

As I was driving home today, I was thinking about all the many reasons about why I love my minivan and what it says about me. So here goes:

1) Need a ride? Sure! I have seats for my family AND friends. This symbolizes my love of family and friends and my need to be a social butterfly. I think it's important to have room in your heart for all sorts of people...maybe even some new friends...

2) Blue. The color of loyalty. Just like I am loyal to my minivan, I try to be loyal to all the people in my life. Some would even say that I am loyal to a fault, for once someone is a friend of mine, I always tend to think the best. Of course, blue is also the color of royalty...in this case, it's not so much me, as the royal prince and princesses I drive to and fro everyday.

3) Another thing I like is that when I drive my minivan, is that I sit up straighter and can see everything around me. I liked my car...I used to drive an Alero...but I love the feeling of being able to feel like I am riding above it all.

4) Last of all, I like my minivan because of it's stability. It has been there for me...in fact, a few years ago I was in an accident and the van I drove was one of the reasons that I escaped with only a few bruises.

Well, there it is. Some reasons why I like driving my minivan. Ever since I was 16, this was my dream car. Which, when I tell my students, they laugh...

To commemorate my new blog...

...I shall first say why I wanted to change it. First of all, trying to blog during school hours is HARD!!! LOL However, I guess the real reason I wanted to change it was because I wanted to talk about other things on here, aside from just work.

I got rid of my myspace page today. I do have an account on Facebook, but I just wasn't using my myspace page that much. I feel a moment of sadness for the good times I have had on there, but I am sure that I will be just as happy typing away on here.

I guess that is all for now...
